How to Sit for Meditation/ Postures

The postures shown in the downloadable poster are just a few examples of the most popular positions used.

I personally tend to sit in the Burmese posture or Half-Lotus, pictured below, which is like a cross between the Burmese and Lotus positions. Whatever feels most comfortable for you is what you should choose. If Lotus feels great one day but the next day you prefer the support of a chair, then that is exactly what you should do! Consider your level of flexibility and any physical limitations as well as the furniture or pillows you have available to use. Then decide what works best. There is no right or wrong way.

I would not recommend laying down to meditate while you are getting used to the practice. The reason for that is it is easy to fall asleep! If you are doing a bedtime meditation for that purpose, it can be very helpful. If not, sitting upright is probably best.
