Chakras and the Human Energy Field

Seven Chakras Poster .pdf

Without getting too deep into the science of physics or its implications in esoteric studies or spirituality, I do want to provide a basic understanding of the Human Energy Field, what it is, and why it is important in your meditation practice.

Let’s break this down into a couple of considerations. First is the significance of thoughts and intentions. You’ve probably heard some version of the famous quote “What you think, you become.” This is not a genuine quote from the Buddha, by the way, as it is often portrayed. Regardless, there are similar concepts such as the law of attraction and the idea of “you reap what you sow” and “what goes around comes around.” Some people relate this to Karma without a complete understanding of the depth of that idea. These sayings and the concept of Karma all have a common thread, but what exactly do they mean?

They mean that we choose our thoughts (and actions) and have complete control over them. As we grow up, we form beliefs based on our experiences. Those experiences provide us with constant feedback which either validates or invalidates our beliefs. Those experiences can keep us stuck in painful situations or stagnate our growth by validating a belief. They can also shock us into awareness that gives us reason to reevaluate a belief.

Our level of awareness, and thus our thoughts, are developed by our perception and are also a reflection of our perception.

If someone believes that they do not have control over their thoughts, this itself is a thought. By thinking this way, we create the belief that we lack control over our thoughts and the lack of control becomes a thing. When we feel overwhelmed, stressed, or experience something that stimulates us in either a perceived negative or positive way, our thoughts race, we cannot focus, and we resign to the idea that our thoughts are “out of control”. Conversely, if we think we have control over our thoughts and choose to be open to all possibilities, then anything is possible, including controlling our thoughts.

Second, the Human Bio-field or Human Energy Field (HEF), is a measurable electromagnetic frequency that expands from within our body’s center and outward approximately 6-8 feet.

It is related but separate from our five levels of brainwaves (Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma). This may sound woo-woo, but I assure you this is a scientifically measurable phenomenon first observed and recorded in the 1930s.

A man by the name of Harold Burr, a neurophysiologist who lectured at Yale University studied the HEF for decades from the late 1930s until around 1970.

An interesting aspect of this work in my opinion is that the frequencies (vibration) found in healthy people versus people with diseases and mental disorders were drastically different. Also, changes in the HEF were notable just prior to diagnoses of disease during studies Burr and others conducted. There were also spikes in the energetic fields of women who were entering into ovulation. To a lesser extent, however still observable, the vibrational quality tends to differ between healthy people with various outlooks, emotions, and awareness.

Studies from the 1950s through the 1980s also found that very specific electro-magnetic frequencies were directly related to specific physical growth and development in lab animals.

These studies discovered that very specific frequencies were responsible for the regeneration of specific body parts. For example, a certain frequency generated a tail, another frequency generated a head, etc.

Nikola Tesla believed fully that human beings are energetically connected to a universal field and spent a good part of his life dedicated to studying this mysterious "Ether".

A Korean professor named Kim Bong Han in the 1960s discovered many things about the energy field, perhaps most notably that its pathways (meridians) are formed within a day after we are conceived! It is quite evident that our thoughts and emotions affect the HEF and it affects our physical body. More simply put, our thoughts and energy are directly related to our health and wellbeing.

You’ve likely heard the term “raise your vibration” in relation to happiness and love and a generally positive outlook on life, right?

Well, the HEF, along with our brainwaves, is observable scientific proof that this is a real thing. In addition to this, it is theorized that there are levels within this field that include vibrational qualities we have yet to fully understand or be able to measure.

Everything in existence, including us, is made up of energy and space, down to the subatomic level.

We (and everything that exists) are energy vibrating at rates that we perceive as solid matter. Our HEF, which as you have just learned is affected by our thoughts, emotions, and awareness, expands outward and has the ability to affect the fields of those around us.

When we meditate, we literally alter our brainwaves, sometimes attaining a heightened state of activity. This allows us to perceive and conceive ideas that we otherwise may not. It has the power to bring us into a state of vibration and energy that generates and radiates love, peace, creativity, and boundless connection with all that is vibrating around us.

The Chakras are energetic points of focus within your physical body, particularly your central nervous system, that reflect specific holistic functions of your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual Self.

Your brainwaves and HEF directly correlate to your physical nervous system function because it, too, is electrical. Each aspect affects the other.

In different parts of the world and in different philosophies and religions, your HEF is called different things.

It may be called Qi (Chee), Prana, Life force, or Mana. In the practice of acupuncture, it is these energetic areas (Chakras) and the pathways (meridians) that connect them that are stimulated using tiny needles to help balance the flow of energy. In fact, I have personally experienced the benefit of acupuncture to heal an extremely painful neurological problem that I suffered from for several years!

The practice of Reiki or energy healing utilizes this understanding of energetic fields whereas the practitioner manipulates the HEF of other people in a way that promotes healing.

Shamans have used their knowledge of this ancient practice for thousands of years. Energy healing in this way is still considered ‘fringe” in many parts of the world, but it is quickly gaining acceptance as results are observed and as modern Western science discovers ways to measure and record these energetic signatures.

Now that you have a deeper understanding of your personal energy and intention and their relationship to meditation, I invite you to approach this course not only for the benefits like reduced stress or improved sleep but to step into your personal power in a bigger way and move forward like the amazing and divine being you are!
